THE VERY BEST CHOCOLATE
FROM THE HEART OF SHROPSHIRE
About Melanie Fallon’s decision to become the Midlands best chocolatier.
As a child Melanie enjoyed trips in her father’s fleet of vans to food fairs and exclusive food emporium. “Dad made patisserie and cakes” says Melanie. “My Mother, two sisters and I used to spend long happy summers with him at food fairs helping him serve the crowds. “That formative experience was a foretaste of what was to come. Though Melanie opted for a conventional career path during the first phase of her life spending 20 years as a nursing sister and divisional manager of children’s wards at her local hospital. She hankered to return to those sun-filled days of her youth….
She thrilled her family and friends by making confectionery for them whenever she had time until a few years ago she decided to follow her dream. Melanie yearned to change career and become an artisan food maker. The path to Bonbonniere began during a conversation with other mothers at the local school gate.
She says “I was collecting my two children from school and I talked to some of the other mothers, then I had a chat with one of the ladies teaches my daughter Harriet who really wanted to do something similar…we went out for a glass of wine and descided to launch Bonbonneire.
Melanie was named the Diamond Award winner in the Heart of England Fine Foods Awards, she realised she’d need to move again. After all, she’d already proved she was the region’s best – her chocolates had even been exported to the world capital of gourmet chocolate, Belgium.
And so, Bonbonniere is now based at home, where she and her team are able to hand make 8,000 chocolates per week.
“I’ve loved delicious food, ever since I was a little girl,” says Melanie. Her customers are thrilled that she decided to pursue her passion.
